This is one of the first questions churches ask, usually because they are worried the app will annoy people. The answer is no. Once someone has logged in and asked to stay logged in, the app remembers them, in the same way banking and shopping apps do.
How it works in practice
-
The login screen has a Keep me logged in on this device option. Encourage people to tick it when they first sign in.
-
After that the app opens straight to the home screen. People are not asked for a password every time.
-
Someone who has not logged in at all can still open the app and look around your public content, such as upcoming events and recent sermons.
-
Anything restricted to members, and notifications, need a login. So does anything personal, such as their own profile, giving or bookings.
-
The web office is different. Getting into the admin side always asks for a proper login, however recently the person signed in on the app.
Good to know
-
People do get logged out eventually, and clearing browser data on the phone will do it sooner. Tell people that if the app suddenly looks emptier than usual, logging back in is the first thing to try.
-
Shared devices are the exception worth mentioning. On a family tablet or a church iPad, ask people to log out when they are finished.
-
If someone cannot remember their password, they can reset it from the app’s login screen. Our guide on helping someone who cannot log in covers the rest.
