Appendix A: designing printer setup
How Printing Works
The label printing system is specially designed to provide maximum flexibility and reliability with low-cost and simple configuration.
-
A web browser, running on any device, makes requests to our servers over the internet to print a label.
-
Our servers create the label and send it over the internet to a Hubb Print Connector running on a Windows PC at your site.
-
The Print Client then sends the label to the correct printer over USB, network cable or Wifi (may be limited by printer capability).
As a result:
-
If a kiosk is running Windows, it can be used for both a web browser and running a Print Client
-
Any kiosk browser, running on any device, can send any label to any printer
-
You can have as many Windows PCs running as many Print Clients as you like, all serving one or more printers, or you could have just one Print Client running on a Windows PC that is connected to all your printers
-
The kiosk devices (PCs, tablets, phones etc.) do not have to be on the same network as each other or the printers. For example, your kiosks could be tablets that all have individual 3G/4G data connections, or you may be using a WiFi network that has client isolation enabled, or your leaders may wish to use their own smartphones.
